SAINT THERESE TWENTY-FOUR "GLORY BE TO THE FATHERS" NOVENA CHAPLET

ORIGIN OF THE NOVENA

In December of 1925, a Jesuit named Father Putigan, began a Novena to Saint Therese of the Child Jesus. He asked Saint Therese for a great favor and for nine days he recited the "Glory be to the Father" twenty-four times thanking the Holy Trinity for the favors and Graces showered on Saint Therese during the twenty-four years of her life on earth. He asked Saint Therese, that as a sign that his novena was heard he would receive a freshly plucked rose. On the third day of the novena, an unknown person sought out Father Putigan and presented him with a beautiful rose. Later, in the same year, Father Putigan began a second novena. This time, as a sign, he asked for a white rose. On the fourth day of this novena one of the Sister-nurses brought him a white rose saying: "Saint Therese sent you this." Amazed, the priest asked: "Where did you get this?" "I was in the chapel," she answered, "and as I was leaving I passed the altar. Above the altar, there hangs a beautiful picture of Saint Therese. This rose fell at my feet. I wanted to put it back into the bouquet, but a thought came to me that I should bring it to you." Father Putigan received the favors he bad petitioned of the Little Flower of Jesus, and promised to spread the novena to increase devotion to, and bring her more honor. This began the custom of praying this novena from the ninth to the seventeenth of each month. Although it is not necessary to pray this novena on these particular days, those who participate in the Twenty-four "Glory be to the Father's" novena from the ninth to the seventeenth of the month, should add to their own petitions, the intentions of all who are, during that time, making the novena. This forms one great shared prayer.

In this chaplet we have chosen to represent Saint Therese with an open heart laying on a small bronze cross and a vintage three dimensional hand painted rose charm. Cloisonné is used for the large bead which is followed by a vintage hand painted rose center. Amethyst glass, spaced with German crystal, complete this precious limited edition chaplet which measures 9 1/2”.

Your chaplet will be shipped in a silk pouch and gift box and will come with information on it’s origin and instructions for it’s prayer.

A portion of the proceeds, from the sale of our rosaries, will be donated to "La Casa de los Ninos," (Heart of Mercy House), a residential community of children and youth living with HIV/AIDS. La Casa was founded, and is lovingly operated, by the Sisters of Mercy.

Saint Jude Forty Bead Chaplet

Because Saint Jude is usually depicted wearing green, his chaplets are traditionally made using green beads. In this version, we’ve used deep green mountain jade (dyed marble) separated with antique gold tone Bali style spacers. A vintage bronze tone and green enamel center and bronze Saint Jude medal complete the limited edition chaplet which measures 11 inches.

Your Saint Jude 40 bead chaplet will be shipped in a silk pouch and gift box.

The Seven Sorrows of Mary (Servite) Rosary

This devotion which brings to mind the 7 sorrows of Mary has a long history beginning with the Servites (Servants of Mary) in Monte Senario Italy about the time the order was started (1233) on the feast of the Assumption.. These 7 professional men from Florence, (an important commercial center of Europe) were influenced by the penitential spirit common to the Brothers of Penance with whom they were in close contact. It is believed that Mary came to them and requested that they devote themselves to her service. In 1240 they withdrew from the world to pray and serve the Lord, leading a life of penance, prayer and service to 'St Mary'. Because of so many visitors, they retreated again to Monte Senario nearby where Mary again visited the men. Here the Servites were formed. By 1244, under the direction of St Peter of Verona, they began to wear a religious habit similar to the Dominicans and began to live under the rule of Saint Augustine. The order took on new life and before the end of the 14c had over 100 convents throughout Europe, India and Crete. The Servites devoted their prayer to the rosary of the Seven Sorrows.

I consider this rosary (or chaplet as it could also be called) to be an especially powerful prayer, particularly for mothers who are praying for the well being of a child. As we meditate on the sorrows of our Blessed Mother, from the anticipation during His childhood to the grief and pain of His crucifixion, death and burial, we are able to find comfort and strength in the realization that she understands our sufferings because she suffered so. With this prayer, we are able to hide ourselves within her heart and wipe our tears with her mantle.

Sparkling Czech crystal is the bead chosen for this edition of the Servite rosary. We begin with clear crystal representing Mary’s crystal tears. Because of the color’s association to Mary, we've selected seven shades of blue for the heart of the rosary. Representing her first sorrow, we begin with pale blue. As we pray our way to the seventh sorrow, each set of seven beads becomes deeper and darker. When we reach the final sorrow, the Burial of Jesus, the beads are a deep blue, appearing near black. All medals are base silver tone. This solemn rosary is 24" long.

Your Servite rosary will be shipped in a silk pouch and gift box and will include a booklet with an explanation of it’s history and instructions for it’s prayer.

Connemara Chaplet of Conversion

We offer this very beautiful chaplet, requested by Our Blessed Mother, for the conversion of the souls of the world in these times that are serious and urgent. She gave it to a chosen soul in Ireland, but asked that it be prayed widely.

--My Treasury of Chaplets by Patricia S. Quintiliani

In honor of the Blessed Mother's decision to give this chaplet to 'a chosen soul in Ireland', we used Connemara marble for our choice of beads - both in 6mm for the Aves and 8mm for the sterling-capped Paters - since Connemara marble is only found in Ireland. We continued the Irish theme with a sterling Celtic "Trinity Knot" for the centerpiece, and completed the chaplet with a sterling silver Irish Penal Crucifix. Even the choice of mother-of-pearl on the links between sets was influenced by the fact that Ireland is an island.

The entire chaplet is wire-wrapped on a special tarnish-resistant sterling silver wire. Wire-wrapped links cannot come apart the way that common chained rosaries can.

Shipped in a velveteen pouch and gift box, with chaplet instructions.
